The Summer in a Nutshell

Leader Training

All support staff and leaders are expected to arrive in Brunswick, Maine on Wednesday, June 17th.

You'll kick the summer off with a home cooked meal at Director's house and begin leader training on Thursday, June 17th.

Over the course of the next few days you'll get to know the directors, leaders, and support staff while enjoying a variety of seminars to help you prepare for a summer filled with challenge, fun, and adventure.

After a few days in Brunswick getting know the Apogee Community and preparing for your trips, you'll put what you've learned into practice and peddle up the coast or backpack Western Maine's Mountains with the other leaders for 5-6 days.

After the leader training trips you'll have a day to relax in Brunswick and prepare for your trips.

All trips will depart Saturday, June 27th.

Trips

Apogee Leaders will lead trips for students 11-18 years old for 1-6 weeks. Most first year leaders will lead 1-3 trips, but no one will lead for longer than 6 weeks. If leaders are assigned to more than one trip, they will have a few days in Brunswick to debrief and prepare for their next trip.

Reflection and Evals

After the trips end all of the leaders will report back to Brunswick to reflect on their summers, clean equipment, write student evaluations, update trip logistics, and enjoy a few days with the other leaders before heading home.

The summer concludes with a farewell dinner in early August.

Leader Insight

"Leading the Pacific Coast Trip was an incredible experience. Getting a chance to explore the West Coast with an amazing group of kids was an unbeatable way to spend the summer. They were able to teach me so much and I feel like I was able to connect with them in the same way. We all had an unforgettable summer, full of fun adventure and amazing experiences."
